Google Photos has always been a lifesaver through-out the years when the photo you are looking on your phone is not to be found but you ultimately find it on google photos.

People been uploading lots of photos and videos to Google Photos in the “high quality” option while some have uploaded in the original size itself. Most of us intended to backup every photo and selected directories to be automatically be uploaded to Google Photos.

However Google has unfortunate news for us.

You can simply move to a subscription method if you would like to continue or there are several methods you can make use of.

  • Move to another cloud (Alternative to Google Photos)
  • Saving in secondary google photo account(s).

The best alternative is Mega.nz Mega is a cloud titan in the industry and has a rich history. The files go via Mega uploader are encrypted, therefore you do not need to worry about your files.

But does it automatically back-up like in Google Photos?

Yes of course! You get the option to backup, in-order to sync photos, you will need to install the Mega.nz app to your mobile device.

Features

  • 15GB storage
  • Encrypted Files
  • 0 downtime

Old accounts created before 2018 got 50 GB account storage. However they do not offer this to the new accounts. You cannot make albums like in Google Photos but you can organize these in the Mega.nz drive like in Google drive. The images are loaded in milliseconds.

Migrating all files can be a pain. Initial way to migrate files are to download all your albums and re-upload in the destination(in our scenario Mega.nz). This is time consuming as well as data quota consuming. You are able to do it easily with a special service called cloud migration service. https://www.multcloud.com/tutorials/transfer-google-photos-to-another-account-1234.html

Check the above tutorial to learn how to transfer files between cloud accounts. I have personally done this several times and nothing have been hacked or breached so far. You will need to grant permission for this application in-order to transfer files. After you have done your job, you can remove the 3rd party app from your account.

Alternatively you can make several google accounts and save your photos via “shared album” feature. This will reduce trouble but you will have to track what goes where and what.

Make sure you remind yourself to do this! Good Luck !
